The houses are calm; the traffic feeding past them is not. Bridge-bound trucks throw stone off the elevated approaches, the ramps get brined heavily all winter, and the cars that live here mostly sleep outdoors - because a lot of the garages built with these houses in the forties and fifties were sized for a forties sedan and will not take a modern SUV. Outdoors is where cracks are made. A chip that would sit still in a heated garage runs across the glass on the first freezing night after a mild spell.

The old glass is cut out, the pinchweld is trimmed to a clean bed and primed rather than left bare, urethane goes down as one unbroken bead, and the mouldings are new.
