Auto glass for Minquadale drivers

Minquadale is a small, older community that grew up along Route 13, and living on a highway shapes what happens to a car. The houses sit close to the road, driveways are short where they exist at all, and a good number of vehicles spend the night either at the kerb or nose-out a few yards from six lanes of traffic. Trucks pass all night. Everything that comes off the highway, spray in the wet, grit in the dry, road salt all winter, lands on cars that are parked closer to it than anyone would choose.

The practical result is that we see a lot of glass here that has been worn as much as it has been broken: screens hazed and scored from years of wiping grit across them, chips that have been sitting for a season because the driver only does short local trips and never really looks at the windshield, edge damage nobody noticed. Short trips are the quiet problem. If your driving is two miles to the store and two miles back, you never get the sustained look at the glass that a highway run gives you, and a chip goes unnoticed until the morning it runs. The upside of being this close to us is that dealing with it is barely an errand. Drive round, or walk if it is easier, leave the keys, and pick the car up the same day. Common windshields are already on the shelf.

Route 13 is the whole story here, six lanes of DuPont Highway with the community strung along its western side and jughandles instead of left turns, so a two-minute errand can mean a half-mile loop. Route 273 comes in just to the south and takes traffic west toward Christiana and I-95. Behind the highway frontage the streets are short, older and narrow, with kerbside parking and small front yards, and there is nothing like the driveway space you find in the newer developments further south. The fire company sits out on the highway itself. Wilmington Manor runs into it on one side and the New Castle industrial ground and the airport approach are just beyond, which means the through traffic here is never only cars.

“10/10 will recommend. A+ service and professionalism. My car was vandalize by a man on drugs. He destroyed my windshield, broke my wiper arm and ripped off my door handle. Very unfortunate for me because my insurance didn't cover because the total damages was under the price of my deductible. So I had to come out of pocket. Glory and praises to God Almighty who supply all. I mean I was upset but God gave me the peace and a heart to pray for the individual that damaged my car. But baby, Pro Bond pulled up on time and got right to work. Vacuum up all the glass and told me once I get the wiper arm to give them a call and they will install. I am so appreciative of great business. The icing on the cake was the quoted price of repair was cheaper then 4 other companies that I called. I called Monday they came out to repair on Tuesday and that was only because it rained Monday. I will recommend to all my family and friends”

Local Conditions

What cracks glass around Minquadale

One: spray and stone off Route 13. Living beside a six-lane highway means the road surface reaches your parked car whether you are driving or not, and the vehicle in front of you on the on-ramp does the rest. Two: short-trip blindness. Local mileage is low here, drivers do not spend an hour a day staring through the screen at speed, and chips get found weeks late rather than days late. Three: parked exposure. Cars sit at the kerb or on a short driveway all night with nothing between them and the highway, which is where the winter salt film that scores a windshield comes from. Four: age of glass. Older cars keep their original screens here, and a screen that has been wiped through fifteen winters of grit is already weakened before anything hits it.

Getting Started

Reaching us from Minquadale

It is a two-minute run, so the only thing that matters is which side of the DuPont Highway you start on. Southbound on 13 you take the first turn for Parkway Circle; northbound you will need the jughandle to get across, so watch for it rather than trying to cut over. If you are on the back streets, come out to Route 13 and turn south toward the New Castle end. Most people here just drop the keys and walk home, and some walk back for the car later the same afternoon. If it is not fit to drive, a window out or the screen collapsed, leave it on the driveway and we will bring the van up the road instead.

FAQ

Auto glass in Minquadale — questions, answered

Can I just turn up without calling?

You can, and being this close means it is rarely wasted, but a phone call first is worth the two minutes. What we need is the year, make and model, so we can check the glass is here before you walk over. Common windshields are on the shelf and most chip fills can be done as you wait, about 30 minutes for $60 to $130. Anything unusual gets sourced the same day rather than booked for next week, but that only happens if we know about it in the morning.

The chip is right at the edge of the windshield. Does that matter?

It matters more than the size does. The perimeter of a windshield is where it bonds to the body and where the load goes when the car flexes over a bad surface or a kerb, so damage there is under constant stress and resin cannot restore that strength. Edge chips almost always mean replacement, $250 to $450 fitted, rather than a $60 to $130 fill. A chip the same size sitting in the middle of the glass is usually a straightforward repair. Tell us where it sits and we will tell you which one you have got.

Will the price change once you have the car?

No. The number you get on the phone is against your specific year, make and model, and it is the number you pay. If something turns up that genuinely changes the job, a moulding that has perished or corrosion under the old glass, you hear about it before we carry on, not after. Chip fill $60 to $130. Windshield $250 to $450 fitted. Door, quarter or back glass $200 to $500. Nothing gets added while the car is in the bay.
