Twenty minutes, and the van covers Glasgow daily. This is truck country, so most calls from here are stone damage off Route 40. Filling a chip runs $60 to $130 and takes about half an hour; a new windshield is $250 to $450 fitted, an hour of work plus safe drive-away time; side, quarter and back glass sits between $200 and $500. Every price is agreed on the phone against the year, make and model before anything starts. Pro-Bond, 23 Parkway Circle, New Castle, weekdays 8 to 5. Call 215-608-1108.

Glasgow is a crossroads before it is anything else. Route 40 running east and west and Route 896 running north and south meet here, and that intersection carries a share of freight that has nothing to do with the people who live nearby: trucks running between the Maryland line and the port, trucks coming off Route 1, trucks heading south over the Summit Bridge. If you live in one of the developments off 896 or behind the shopping centres, your car spends part of every day two lengths behind one of them.
That is why the glass work here skews so hard toward stone damage. It is rarely dramatic. It is a knock you half hear at a light, and then a week later a mark in the screen you notice because the sun is at the wrong angle. Filled early it is half an hour and $60 to $130, and the original factory seal on the windshield never gets disturbed. Left alone through a cold morning and a hot defroster it runs, and then it is $250 to $450 for a new screen. The other half of what we do around here comes out of the big parking lots, which is a different problem entirely and one that people usually discover while carrying shopping. Both get quoted the same way and both can be done where the car stands.
The Route 40 and Route 896 crossroads is the centre of gravity, with People's Plaza and the retail either side of it and turning traffic backed up in every direction at rush hour. Route 40 runs west from there toward Elkton as the main truck route, past car dealers, tyre places and yards; east it heads for Bear and the Route 1 interchange. Route 896, South College Avenue heading north, goes to Newark and the interstate; south it becomes the Summit Bridge road over the canal toward Middletown. Glasgow Park sits at the corner with the fields behind it, and the housing developments run off both highways on curved streets with driveways rather than kerb parking.
“10/10 will recommend. A+ service and professionalism. My car was vandalize by a man on drugs. He destroyed my windshield, broke my wiper arm and ripped off my door handle. Very unfortunate for me because my insurance didn't cover because the total damages was under the price of my deductible. So I had to come out of pocket. Glory and praises to God Almighty who supply all. I mean I was upset but God gave me the peace and a heart to pray for the individual that damaged my car. But baby, Pro Bond pulled up on time and got right to work. Vacuum up all the glass and told me once I get the wiper arm to give them a call and they will install. I am so appreciative of great business. The icing on the cake was the quoted price of repair was cheaper then 4 other companies that I called. I called Monday they came out to repair on Tuesday and that was only because it rained Monday. I will recommend to all my family and friends”
One: loaded trucks on Route 40. It is the heaviest working road we cover, the surface is repaired and re-repaired, and anything that comes off a tyre in front of you arrives at windshield height. Two: the crossroads itself, where stop-start traffic means you are sitting close behind whatever is shedding grit, then accelerating through it. Three: the big lots. Doors, mirrors and quarter glass take a beating in a packed shopping centre, and a smashed side window in a lot is the second most common call we get from this ZIP. Four: winter treatment. Route 40 gets salted and brined heavily, that mixture gets into an open chip within a day or two, and contaminated chips never fill as cleanly as fresh ones.
Route 40 east is the straightforward answer: stay on it through Bear until it meets Route 1 and Route 13, then take 13 north toward New Castle and the bridge approach. We are a short turn off the highway on Parkway Circle. From the 896 side, north to Route 4 and across to Route 273 east is often quicker at peak, because it avoids the worst of the Route 40 lights. Either route is about twenty minutes, longer if the crossroads is stacked. If the car is not fit to drive, glass across the seats or a window that will not close, leave it and we will bring the work to you.

The rough test is a quarter. A single impact smaller than that, sitting away from the perimeter of the glass and out of the driver's direct line of sight, is a repair: about 30 minutes, $60 to $130, and the factory seal stays untouched. What rules it out is damage at the edge, a crack that has already started to travel, several strikes clustered together, or a mark sitting right where you look through. Those are replacements at $250 to $450 fitted. Describe where it sits on the screen when you call and we will tell you which one you have.
Yes. Back glass comes with the defroster grid printed into it and often the radio antenna as well, and the replacement is specified to your car so both work as they did. Budget $200 to $500 fitted. The part people underestimate is the cleanup: a back window is tempered, so it does not crack, it drops into pellets that end up under the parcel shelf, in the boot channels and in the rear seat belt reels. Getting all of that out is part of the job and it takes longer than fitting the glass.
Yes, and it is a normal way for us to work here. We need to park alongside the car with enough room to open a door fully, and we need dry weather, because urethane that sets in the wet does not reach the strength it is supposed to. Give us the centre, the row and a description of the car. If it turns wet on the day we will say so and either move the job into the shop or push it, rather than fitting glass we would not be happy driving behind.
